Because they're all the same size... [May. 13th, 2008|11:23 pm]

[stufro]
I recently sold and old watch on ebay. For scale on the listing picture I included a UK one penny piece as it was the only thing immediately to hand at the time. My Mother pointed out, quite correctly, that international buyers might not know how big a one penny piece was and not be bothered to find out. However, her suggestion of alternative scale was especially dumb:

"You should use something that everyone will recognise... like a strawberry."

Yes. Because strawberries are all exactly the same size... *facepalm*

Dearest T:

I know you think the world revolves around you, but here's a news flash: IT DOESN'T. I know, it's hard to grasp, but really. It doesn't. I'm really getting sick and tired of you either calling in like, every couple of weeks, or bitching that you have a hangover, or calling to say "Oh hey I'll be really late and I'll probably be in like, 2 1/2 hours before closing, sorry!" And you know why? BECAUSE I HAVE A FUCKING LIFE. IT DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND WORK, AND I'M GETTING SICK AND TIRED OF COVERING FOR YOUR ASS.

If your husband can not give you a ride to work, either find a ride, call a cab, or hey, novel idea here, WALK. I know it's hot outside. That is not my problem. I've had ruined plans far too many times because you can't get your ass to work. And I'm getting sick of it. So are the managers. So right now, it'seither get your act together, or be fired. Because I swear to god if it keeps happening, I will not be nice the next time I see you.\

No love,

2 Nights,2 posts.

The person in question is not an associate in my store, she is however an associate at another location of the same company.

L showed up at our store at 8:15 (Our store closes at 9, hers at 8).

A list!

1. She took C, into the back and they sat back here for 20 minutes (Despite the company's strict no people in the backroom policy due to LP)

2. SHE SCRATCHED MY BACK! Like literally her nails on my back; because after I asked her to excuse me and let me pass through a doorway 4 times, i just went around her.

3. She goes to out store and ties up our business line to call her bf (who happens to be the SM)

=/

I need a new job

I hate working the liquor part of the store. Why? Not only am I a klutz but I'm a fast cashier. This means that me being surrounded by glass is a bad idea (sadly it's just glass bottles I'm a klutz with along with the occasional tripping over my own feet) and when in the rest of the store they're calling for back-ups that means I should be in there. Not out in the slowest area of the store being bored to death because I'm used to being a fast cashier and busy with the long lines we get DAILY. I did not complain to you because, for some odd reason, this was management's idea. I was however ignoring your existence this morning because you were rude (giving me attitude and not speaking to me) and when I broke a bottle*, you pretty much freaked out on me about how management would be pissed at me (corporate and management does not care- they just say "it happens"). I broke down crying to a co-worker during one of my breaks and management went searching for me to apologize to me because they knew I was so upset over it*. Not only that but you laughed at me and rubbed it in my face later in the day when I was locked out of the registers (we never truly found out how that happened). It was just one of those days where I wanted to dig a hole and go hide/cry in it. You did not help what-so-ever.

*Yes, I know it's just a bottle but it was an $80 bottle of liquor and I've never broken anything that expensive (to me) in my life. Not only that but the way my co-worker made it sound...I thought I was going to get yelled at for sure about it.

1975 called. They want their hotel room back. [May. 16th, 2008|09:50 pm]

I swear to god, this place has mirror ceilings.

Baby Girl and I arrived at the Hotel at 2pm. I think it might be time to get a GPS, I'm guessing that I lost about an hour on the way up here because of direction screw ups. I can't read directions well when I'm zipping along at highway speeds. I also haven't been impressed by the street signs that I saw in New Jersey.

We made it into the city. So far we've seen Time Square, The Empire State Building (outside, the clouds were low enough that there wasn't any point in going up), Grand Central Terminal, and the UN buildings.

[mood | annoyed]

My co-workers are apparently not good under pressure, I though we were all taught this during elementary school, but I guess not, so here is a recap of what not to do during a fire

-          wait for the elevator, it is not going to come, that is why there is a sign that says “in case of fire use stairs” swearing at the elevator is not going to make it work nor is kicking it

-          Stopping in the stair well to use your cell phone and blocking everyone in

-          Pushing the pregnant woman (ME – 7 1/2 month here) because I am not moving enough – sorry not only can I not run (which is not safe anyways) but there is some stupid twit who has stopped to use their cell phone and I can’t get by.

-          The screaming is not helping either

-          Trying to push your way back up the stairs because you forgot your coat is just stupid, come on, not only is it going to get someone hurt but the door at the top is now locked so people don’t run back into the place where the fire is.

So we all some how make it down stairs alive, just to be told by the manager that there is no fire and we all need to go back up. The only problem with this plan is that the alarms are still going off and the fire dept hasn’t gotten here yet so there are no elevators and the doors to the stairs are still lock – this means no going back up stairs. However it doesn't stop people from trying to cram into the stair well so each of them can make sure that the doors are locked.

Finally the fire dept shows up, we all track back up stairs, just to have the alarm go off again. Same chaos ensues; I try to let everyone go first because I don’t feel like being pushed this time. I finally get down stairs; just in time to be told to go right back up.  So I hull my prego butt back up stairs, and why did I have to go back up??? So my manager could tell everyone to go home for the day. I have no idea why they had to bring everyone back up for that, but there you have it. There were still people waiting for the elevator when I left, I have no idea how long they were waiting.

It's Like a Technical Problem.... [May. 13th, 2008|04:11 am]

mock_the_stupid

[serena_snape]
My fiance and i both work technical support for DirecTV. i am a Protection plan tech, and he's a supervisor. if a customer escalates to a supervisor, he takes the call.
with that in mind, My fiance took this call tonight.

Woman called in because she had tried to pay her bill on the automated Phone System, or IVR. her bill was somewhere in the ball park of 63 dollars. she was calling, because somehow the 'computer' had screwed up (Couldn't possibly be user error) and instead of paying the 63 dollars she owed, she somehow authorized the computer to charge her bank over 5 thousand dollars. The charge went through, it wasn't declined.

My fiance explained her options. Either call your bank in the morning and cancel the payment, or call us back, as sales and billing was currently closed. they might be able to reverse the fee.

No. you're a supervisor. she screamed. you fix this. it's not my fault, the computer messed it up.

First off, even if the computer made the mistake, it confirms "you have chosen to pay xx dollars. is this right?" so after the computer told you you had chosen to pay five thousand two hundred dollars, you said yes. how is that a computer mistake?
She argues till she's blue that this was the computers mistake, not hers, and that she's not going to make herself look stupid by calling her bank and canceling the payment, and paying the fees for it.
Well lady, you're kinda making yourself look stupid by refusing to talk to your bank, but whatever.

Next, she argues that John has to fix it. he's a supervisor, he should be able to fix it. John explains (several times) that he's a Tech support supervisor, not a sales and billing supervisor.
She yells, curses, calls John incompetent and stupid, and asks how he could have become a supervisor if he can't do his job.
John calmly explains that he can do his job. as a tech support supervisor, not a sales and billing supervisor. she flips out again calling him stupid, when he finally replies with "Ma'am you can act like a child and call me names all you want, it doesn't change your two options. either call your bank, or call sales and billing in the morning when they open."
at some point during the call, he explained (again) that we were technical support. not sales and billing. she then replies with "this is like a technical issue"
Riiiight.

But seriously. Over Five thousand dollars. even if the computer made a mistake why would you authorize it? i especially loved how she's calling him stupid, and refuses to call her bank because it would make her look stupid.

Job Centre Stupidity [May. 12th, 2008|01:20 pm]

mock_the_stupid

[gipsy_dreamer]
A couple of weeks ago I had my six-monthly JSA review at the job centre, and it took me about three days to stop facepalming and headdesking every time I thought about it. My usual adviser (disability adviser in my case) wasn't available so I had to see someone I'd never met. He spoke really, really slowly, typed even slower and it seems his brain wasn't in top gear either. Here goes:

Adviser: So tell me your employment history
Me: *explains about previous jobs and how epilepsy prevents me from doing some of them now*
Adviser: Have you ever thought about going back into caring?
Me: I can't. I'm epileptic *points at details of this fact on his computer screen*
Adviser: Oh I see. *pulls up a ton of caring jobs on screen*
Me: I've just said I can't do that job any more. I need something like a general office job
Adviser: Oh. *finds something that involves having to drive*. What about this one?
Me: That's a caring job. It also involves a car and I'm not allowed to drive *points at evidence glaring at him on his screen*
Adviser: Oh. *finds an admin job that interests me*
Me: That looks interesting
Adviser: *pulls the job details off the screen and starts showing me caring roles*
Me: I can't do caring
Adviser: Oh. Can you drive?
Me: *considers something less painful than dealing with this guy, like running face first into a brick wall, while brain begins to melt and leak through ears*
Adviser: Here's an admin job
Me: That looks perfect for me; what are the details please?
Adviser: *takes job off screen* Have you considered going back into caring?

GAH!!!

And so it went on, with nothing achieved and my disability advisers notes about me so messed up that he had to start all over again when I saw him the other day. However, he couldn't stop laughing when I told him the story...

I am the asm at an electronics store. I generally like my job, and was recently transferred to another store. New store = new associates.

1. A few weeks ago I was feeling ill, luckily the schedule had another keyholder scheduled and another associate. I asked her if she minded if i left early. "Oh no course not! Go home feel better! We'll be fine." So I went home. The next day I was written up for going home early. She told the manager the next day that she had begged me to stay but I had left anyway, and that since i was the asm she wasn't going to question my judgment. Huh?

1B. She doesn't do her scheduled tasks. It sounds petty, but if you're the one opening the store that means you're responsible for making the deposit. That doesn't mean walk out of the store when I get in.

1C. She sits in the back room on the phone with the SM's girlfriend for hours. Just because. Not scheduled break or anything she just sits and talks.

1.2 hrs on H.B. - Linework on 1.25 pgs done. Oh yeah, once the project is a little more complete, there should be plenty more news at herobot.net. There's some tiny snippets of the art I've been working on floating around there... and I refuse to say anymore about it right now.

So I finally got my refund thing from the government. Most of it went towards a plane ticket so [info]jeshala can visit from the 30th to the 4th. This is a good thing.

So I found out yesterday that I'm gonna be moving on Thursday.

I haven't started packing yet.

I'm going to Epoch tomorrow and I come back on Monday.

Tuesday is supposed to be poker.

I have no boxes.

So basically I have Monday night and Wednesday to pack.  Depending on how things go, I might have to bow out on Tuesday just to get my shit together.

One things for sure, this is gonna be a hellova week...

In positive news, I finally swung by the pilates/yoga studio across the road from CEC, and now I have a schedule, price list, and a card for a free yoga class. :3 They do assessments for people wanting to join pilates, to make sure you go in the right type/level, which is nice. I'll be going there as soon as we get a bit of monies again, the pricing is reasonably within the normal average for such things.

I spent a good chunk of yesterday partially dismantling and scrubbing the heck out of the drip-pans of the elements of our stove, after one of them CAUGHT FIRE while I was boiling water for pasta the other day. Everything is as clean as I can get it, now, it was just one of those things that hadn't come up before. O_o Today I need to put it back together and continue my detail-cleaning of the apartment. I'm trying to get all the corners and out-of-the-ways that don't get much attention in the normal course of cleaning. It's keeping me busy while I don't have a lot of shifts at work.

Lost Winds is SO PRETTY. And tons of fun to play, none of the frustrating must-make-perfect-lines that made me turn off Okami. I have way too much fun tossing the little character around and rustling everything that can be rustled with breezes. :3
